MEC Mhlahlo to address the Institute for Municipal Public
Safety of Southern Africa Conference

On Thursday, 13 September 2007, Eastern Cape MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads
and Transport, Thobile Mhlahlo, will deliver a keynote address at the Institute
for Municipal Public Safety of Southern Africa Conference to be held at the
City Hall Complex, Market Square, Port Elizabeth, at 9h00.

MEC Mhlahlo is expected to deliver an address titled: 'Requirements for
Leadership in Public Safety with Emphasis upon Law Enforcement for 2007 and
Beyond.'

In his address, he is further expected to elaborate on the following:

* transformation of law enforcement agencies' management
* the new government policy direction in relation to public safety as enshrined
in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, White Paper on Safety and
Security, National Crime Prevention Strategy and Batho Pele
* strengthening the capacity of local government to deliver public safety
services
* importance of public safety on the 2010 Fifa World Cup preparations.
