President Mbeki departs for China ahead of China-Africa
co-operation summit

Beijing � South African President, Thabo Mbeki, will today, Thursday, 2
November 2006, depart for Beijing, China ahead of the Forum on China-Africa
(FOCAC) Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled from Saturday, 4
November to Sunday, 5 November 2006. The Summit is held under the banner
"Friendship, Peace, Co-operation and Development."

President Mbeki will be supported by Ministers Dlamini Zuma and Mandisi
Mpahlwa. President Mbeki and his delegation will participate in this Summit
within the context of South Africa's commitment to consolidate the African
agenda and the developmental agenda of the South.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is today, Thursday, 2 November, scheduled to hold
bilateral political, economic and trade discussions with her Chinese
counterpart, Minister Li Zhaoxing.

On Friday, 3 November, Minister Dlamini Zuma will lead the South African
delegation to the Ministerial segment of the China-Africa Forum as part of
preparations for the Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The China-Africa Forum provides a platform for collective dialogue and
multilateral co-operation, concentrating on issues of economic and social
development.
