President Thabo Mbeki will tomorrow, Friday, May 19, attend the Presidential
Trade Union Working Group meeting at the Union Buildings, 11h00-13h00.
It is expected that the meeting will discuss the Accelerated and Shared
Growth Initiative for South Africa(AsgiSA), World Trade Organisation (WTO)
negotiations, industrial policy and other issues impacting on the labour market
in South Africa.
The meeting will also receive updates on efforts to implement
recommendations of the last meeting; pertinent among these being the need to
create the right climate for growing the economy, creating jobs and combating
the scourge of poverty. The last meeting was held on 1 April 2005. It
discussed, inter alia, the Government's Programme of Action, municipal
infrastructure grants and job creation.
Labour will be represented by the following trade union federations:
National Council of Trade Unions (NACTU), the Federation of Unions of South
Africa (FEDUSA) and Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).
