President Thabo Mbeki will meet members of the International Investment
Council (IIC) at the Council's 12th Meeting to be held at Bushman Sands in
Alicedale, in the Eastern Cape province from 11 to 13 May 2007.
The last meeting was held from 27 to 29 October 2006 at Pezula Country
Estate in Knysna, Western Cape, at which the members reflected on an overview
of the South African economy, second economy initiatives, the Joint Initiative
on Priority Skills Acquisition (JIPSA), preparations for the 2010 FIFA World
Cup and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
It is expected that the 12th Meeting of the IIC will discuss current
economic developments in South Africa, the Accelerated and Shared growth
Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA), JIPSA, job creation and Students
Experience Programme (STEP). Also high on the agenda will be discussions on
small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), the 2010 FIFA World Cup and
related challenges, the investment climate and key international issues.
The government delegation will include Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka,
Minister in The Presidency and ministers of Trade and Industry, Public
Enterprises, Finance, Agriculture and Land Affairs, Minerals and Energy, Public
Works, and Communications.
Members of the IIC include Mr Masaki Miyaji (Mitsubishi Corporation), Mr
Naill Fitzgerald (Reuters Group), Mr Ratan Tata (Tata Sons Limited), Sir Samuel
Jonah (Anglo Gold Ashanti), Mr Lakshmi Mittal (Mittal Steel), Dr Martin
Kohlhaussen (Commerzbank AG), and Sir Anthony OâReilly (Independent News and
Media).
The success of the work of the IIC is of importance to South Africaâs people
with efforts at attracting more investments into the country will assist
further to grow the economy and thus defeat the scourge of poverty and
unemployment.
