individuals relating to the United Nations (UN) Oil for Food Programme

President Thabo Mbeki has appointed a Commission of Inquiry into the alleged
illicit activities of certain South African companies or individuals relating
to the UN Oil for Food Programme in Iraq. The Commission â which commences with
immediate effect - was appointed in terms of Section 84(2)(f) of the
Constitution of the Republic.
The Commission will report to Justice Minister, Ms Brigitte Mabandla, MP,
within the next three months or with the Ministerâs consent, soon
thereafter.
Advocate Michael Donen, SC, will chair the Commission while Adv Khehla
Chauke and Senior Superintendent Lucy Moleko will serve as additional members.
Adv Chauke serves on the Specialised Commercial Crime Unit of the National
Prosecuting Authority (NPA). Senior Superintendent Moleko serves on the Serious
Economic Crime Unit of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Details regarding the Commissionâs terms of reference will be provided by
the Ministry of Justice.
