Members of the media are invited to attend the national Freedom Day
celebrations to be held in Galeshewe stadium, Kimberley. President TM Mbeki
will deliver a speech at the event. Cabinet decided that South Africa would
celebrate its freedom every year on 27 April, known as "Freedom Day". The theme
for the 2006 Freedom Day celebrations is âAge of Hope â Through Struggle to
Freedom!â
Freedom Day celebrations are intended to contribute towards uniting South
Africans in celebrating freedom and democracy. It calls for all South Africans
to join hands and participate at events planned nationwide.
The celebrations acknowledge the role played by South Africans from
different sectors in the achievement of freedom and in contributing to the
reconstruction and development of our society, social cohesion and accelerated
shared growth.
