The 10th of October represents a milestone in the history of Statistics
South Africa. It is on this day that the first democratic Census, covering the
length and breath of our country, was conducted. Subsequently in 2001, Stats SA
conducted the second Census. The Census calendar, however, has since been
changed to 10 years instead of five.
Accordingly, Stats SA will release the results of Community Survey conducted
earlier this year. The survey, dubbed the midwife of Census, is intended to
close the data gap in the intervening period of Censuses.
The Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel, MP, and Pali Lehohla, the
Statistician-General, will officially release the survey results to the public
in October.
