Best performing police stations in the province are to receive awards for
outstanding service. The Simunye MECâs Excellence Awards for Best Police
Stations will take place as follows:
Date: Thursday, 6 April 2006
Venue: Emnotweni Arena, Nelspruit.
Time: 18h00
Premier Thabang Makwetla conceived the awards when he was still the MEC for
Safety and Security to replace the defunct Saambou Bank Community Policing
Awards. All police stations were evaluated on a range of issues that form the
core-business of a police station.
The Civilian Secretariat in conjunction with community policing forums
(CPFs), members of the Police Unions and Police management undertook the
evaluation this year. For the first time in the history of the awards, the
Civilian Secretariat did the moderation. Emphasis was also placed on
community-police relations in line with the Afrika Conceptâs vision of building
a people cantered police service.
The awards have led to the improvement of service levels at the majority of
police stations. There are two categories of winners for the awards, area and
provincial level.
MEC for Safety and Security Dina Pule and Premier Thabang Makwetla will
confer the awards.
