The search is on for the Best Northern Cape Traffic and Police Women of the
Year for 2007. This initiative is part of the provincial Department of Safety
and Liaison to celebrate and bestow honour to women in these male dominated
terrains.
The department has been running this competition since the year 2000
especially during the month of August, designated as Women Month.
The aim of the competition is to reward excellence in law enforcement and
recognise unswerving devotion to duty, outstanding record of service in the
traffic and the police fraternities and to the community, commitment to the job
(department), its goals and all sacrifices which are worthy of great praise and
emulation by fellow officers (being a role model).
Provincial Safety and Liaison MEC Thembalekaya Madikane will announce and
honour the winners at an award-giving ceremony in De Aar on 30 August 2007.
The top winner will be all smiles to the bank with R10 000, second runner up
will pocket R8 000,00 and the third price is R5 000. Participants will all
receive certificates of acknowledgement.
The long-term goals of the competition is aimed at giving recognition to and
encouraging our women in blue to continue to break the glass ceilings in these
previously male dominated disciplines.
All interested nominators are encouraged to fill in the forms found at all
police and traffic stations and offices of the Department of Safety and Liaison
throughout the Northern Cape to motivate their choices of women who have
demonstrated excellence in executing her duties and serving the community.
The closing date for nomination is 20 August 2007.
