The Minister of Public Works, Ms Thoko Didiza, will take to the road to
visit her constituencies which consist of various stakeholders, business,
Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects and communities in the
provinces of Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, respectively as part of Imbizo Week
starting on 26 and ending on 31 October.
On Thursday, 26 October, the Minister will visit Ndindani Combined School in
Mpumalanga around Nkomazi Local Municipality where she will be inaugurated as a
Patron to the school. She will address the gathering that will consist of the
community, learners and educators. Later on she will address the local council
meeting.
On Friday, 27 October, the Minister will arrive at Gert Sibande District
Municipality and visit various projects implemented under the auspices of the
EPWP and their beneficiaries in the town of Secunda. The Minister will also
take an opportunity to meet with local business including a visit to the Sasol
Plant and Eskom, which are the main economic generators and source of
livelihood for local people in the area.
On Saturday, 28 October, still in the Gert Sibande District Municipality,
the Minister will move down to Ermelo where she is expected to hear and address
the community at Swanepoel Stadium. The Minister will give the community an
opportunity to interact with her on issues that concern their day to day
quality of life and the challenges that need government's intervention.
On Sunday, 30 October, the Minister moves to KwaZulu-Natal. She will start
by officially opening the Construction Conference at the Durban International
Convention Centre (ICC) at 08h30 in the morning and later proceed to the
meeting with the eThekwini Metropolitan Council at the local municipal chambers
in Durban. Minister will focus primarily on the implementation of the EPWP and
assist the metro with challenges thereof.
Later on in the day, the Minister is also billed to attend a staff Imbizo
with the regional office in Durban.
On Monday, 31 October, the Minister will conclude her trail with a visit to
Ilembe District Municipality in Stanger. On the day she is expected to visit
various local municipalities that include Mandeni, Ndwedwe and hold a meeting
with the Farmers Committee of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) at the
Sonkombo area of the district municipality.
