Sport and Recreation expresses supports for Proteas

South Africa's Ministry of Sport and Recreation hopes for a
successful ICC World Twenty20 tournament

Date: 10 September 2007

The past weekend had mixed fortunes for South African sport. While we lost
crucial U/23 and Bafana Bafana matches, the Springboks lived up to
expectations, instilling fear in those they will be facing later in the
tournament.

Tomorrow we see the start of the ICC World Twenty20 - a tournament that we
hope and wish to see succeeding. For us as a country, the success of the
tournament is not just about better organisation but about better display by
the Proteas as well.

As the Proteas come face to face with West Indies tomorrow, they should do
so knowing that as a country we will be behind them throughout the tournament.
We trust that they will reciprocate our support by representing us with
dedication and pride.

The Proteas should know by now that there are no pushovers at tournaments of
this magnitude. We therefore hope that they will treat each game as if it is
their last opportunity to serve their country.

The Minister, Rev. Dr Makhenkesi Stofile and Deputy Minister, Mr Gert
Oosthuizen, wish the Proteas the best of luck and good health throughout the
tournament.
