The Road Accident Fund (RAF) Task Team comprising the Commercial Branch of
the South African Police Service (SAPS), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)
and the Forensic Investigators attached to the RAF arrested one of the fraud
syndicate leaders. The accused Ms Tanya Senekal (25 years) of Impala Park,
Boksburg appeared on 17 November 2006, in the Germiston Regional Court and was
sentenced to ten years imprisonment or to pay a fine of R120 000 for submitting
false claims amounting to more than R200 000 to the RAF for payment.
The accused is further linked to other fraud syndicates that created a
number of fictitious taxi accidents and further lodged false claims amounting
to � R50 000 000 (between January 2006 and October 2006) for payment by the
RAF.
The Task Team is also investigating a number of fraud cases against certain
medical doctors for allegedly supplying the fraudsters with false medical
certificates and reports that were used to process false claims. More arrests
are imminent.
