South Africa to send tour guides to Beijing, 1 Aug

Skills development gets a boost as South African tourist guides
head for Beijing

31 July 2006

On Tuesday, 1 August 2006, 13 South Africa tour guides will depart from
Johannesburg for experiential training in Beijing. The Department of
Environmental Affairs and Tourism has partnered with Chinese Government and
trained 13 tourist guides who completed their courses in the Chinese language
in January 2006.

A further agreement has been entered into through a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between the Chinese Government and the Department of
Environmental Affairs and Tourism, to place the 13 tourist guides in China for
experiential learning for a period of two months.

This is a positive development for South Africa’s Skill Development
Programme in the Tourism Sector especially in view of the upcoming 2010 World
Cup.

Members of media are invited to a media send-off to be held at Johannesburg
International Airport.
