Over 119 government officials will appear in court in the Limpopo, Gauteng
and North West provinces from 27 to 31 March 2006 regarding social grants
irregularities.
The appearances form part of the national anti-fraud campaign by the
national Department of Social Development assisted by the Special
Investigations Unit and the South African Police Service.
The current investigations have resulted in court appearances around the
country of over 577 officials, suspected of defrauding the system of over R10
million.

Court Venue: Johannesburg Commercial court
Value of fraud: R 306 982.00
Said the Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya: âThe campaign is
clearly demonstrating to officials in government departments and other members
of the public involved in fraud, including syndicates, that fraud, corruption
and maladministration in the social grants system will not be tolerated. We are
determined to ensure that only deserving and legitimate beneficiaries obtain
social grantsâ.
