The MEC for Social Development Kgaogelo Lekgoro will tomorrow, Friday, 29
September 2006, celebrate with senior citizens who have lived to be
centenarians and beyond.
He will also issue them with certificates to honour their hard earned living
years, discipline and dedication, as well as their contribution to humanity.
The aim of the programme is to build a legacy for South Africans as well as tap
into the memory of senior citizens of our province.
This programme kick-starts the month-long social development programme which
is aimed at restoring the dignity of senior citizens. The Department of Social
Development will celebrate through a month-long programme aimed at putting the
plight of the elderly at the centre of problems that government must
eradicate.
The MEC will also highlight the abuse of senior citizens' which should be
eradicated to ensure that the elderly enjoy their lives gracefully.
