The Department of Science and Technology and the World Bank in conjunction
with the Global Research Alliance, are sponsoring a visit to South Africa by Dr
Anil Gupta.

Nicolas Gorjestani of the World Bank on the role of community-based innovation

Lunch at the Department of Science and Technology
Dr Gupta is one of the world's foremost academics and practitioners in the
field of grassroots innovation and the purpose of his visit is to create
opportunities for intensive dialogue and to promote the notion of
community-based or grassroots innovation. This in turn will be aimed in the
long run on the creation of more sustainable and innovative communities which
will support the objectives of government.
Dr Gupta will be accompanied by Mr Nicolas Gorjestani who is a Senior
Advisor and Chief Knowledge and Learning Office for the Africa region of the
World Bank. Mr Gorjestani oversees a variety of activities that promote the
sharing of indigenous knowledge and learning to help leverage the experiences
of all stakeholders towards reaching the Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs).
