Please be advised that South African revenue Services (SARS) Commissioner
Pravin Gordhan will conduct a Small Business Imbizo in East London on Thursday,
25 May 2006. The meeting will attempt to raise public awareness and solicit
public participation on the following:
* The Small Business Tax Amnesty the Minister of Finance announced in this
yearâs Budget
* The legislative process to give effect to the amnesty as outlined in the
Small Business Tax Amnesty and Amendment of Taxation Laws Bill 2006
(Parliamentâs portfolio committee on finance will start deliberations on the
Bill from 1 June and will conduct public hearings)
* General tax education focussing on who would qualify for the amnesty; what
will be required; timeframes etc
* Any further issues raised by business constituencies, stakeholder groups
and the public regarding tax;
The East London Imbizo will be the first in a series of public meetings
around the country to explain the amnesty and other tax matters to business
owners. Attached also is a media release explaining SARSâ interaction thus far
with key industry representatives from the taxi industry regarding the
amnesty.
All media are invited to attend the Imbizo in East London on Thursday, 25
May 2006.
