SAPS to open Operational Training on Fight Against Drug Trafficking and
Precursor Control in Africa, 9 Jan

Opening of the Operational Training on the Fight Against Drug
Trafficking and Precursor Control in Africa, 9 January 2005

6 January 2006

The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the French government will again
co-host a course to be presented to no less than 14 African countries,
including South Africa, from 9 to 20 January 2005.

The aim of the training is to improve the professional knowledge and
co-operation of personnel of the police, customs and intelligence offices.

The course, which will be very practical in nature, will contribute to
enhancing the fight against drug trafficking. To be looked at are intervention
tactics and techniques as well as operational scenarios and on-site
exercises.

The training will be conducted by two members of the French police and
members of the South African Police Service. Members of the private sector and
an official from the International Narcotics Control Board: Vienna, will also
be involved in lecturing.

The training programme is made possible by the gracious financial support by
the French government, which demonstrates the excellent co-operation between
the South African Police Service and the international community to fight cross
border crime.

Crime knows no boundaries. Policing today is hence geared to counteract
international crime to the benefit of all law abiding communities in South
Africa and elsewhere on the continent.
