Interpol: National Forum for the Law Enforcement of Heritage

National Forum for the Law Enforcement of Heritage (NALEH) related matters
is launching the first ever South African Stolen Heritage Object Poster on
Wednesday, 13 September 2006, at 11h00 at the University of Pretoria Editorial
Centre.
This prestigious event is an initiative by the Endangered Species Desk, the
Department of Arts and Culture (DAC), the South African Heritage Resource
Agency (SAHRA) and the South African Museum Association (SAMA). The forum has
over the past year developed a national network which assists law enforcement
officials with the policing of heritage objects and works of art. It is the
objective of this forum to host an awareness day at the Sanlam Auditorium,
University of Pretoria.
During the awareness day various role players will be charged with the
responsibilities of presentations and followed by question and answer sessions.
At this prestigious event the first "Stolen South African Heritage Objects"
poster will be launched and distributed to all participants. The launch will be
concluded with a live video conference with the Washington office of the
Federal Bureau of Investigationâs (FBI) Art Investigation Team in the United
States of America. They will present three different papers consisting of the
following topics:
* the role of customs
* United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and
the implications
* fighting art crime
The South African Police Service is extending an open invitation to all the
stakeholders who deal in heritage objects, works of art or antiques.
Furthermore any individual and all media houses are cordially invited to attend
this prestigious event.
