Former Limpopo Premier Adv Ngoako Ramatlhodi attends First
Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) meeting

14 February 2006

Former Limpopo Premier Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi and now chairman of the
Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) attended his first
council meeting today.

The meeting under the leadership of Safety and Security Minister Charles
Nqakula and his Deputy Minister Susan Shabangu, was convened to introduce
Ramatlhodi to the council members and other role players.

Ramatlhodi was recently appointed chairman of PSIRA following a cabinet
decision last week. The primary objective of the Authority is to regulate the
private security industry and to exercise effective control over the practice
of the occupation of security service provider in the public and national
interest and in the interest of the private security industry itself.

Nqakula expressed his appreciation to Ramatlhodi for accepting the position.
He also thanked members who acted on this position for the good work they
did.

“I also mentioned that the welcoming of the chairman could not just end with
the management and requested that this meeting be organised so that he can be
introduced to all the members.

“I took this decision because I believe that the success of this council is
dependent on the dedication of each and every one of us. Our contribution as
the ministry and support services is essential to its functioning.

“This is the best way to start the year and I have no doubt that our new
chairman is going to provide us with the strategic direction we need to ensure
that we remain focused and we deliver on our mandate.

“Having been a Premier before it should be easier for Ramatlhodi to rise up
to the challenge of ensuring that the organisation is able to function
effectively. Like any organisation, I am sure that PRISA have its own problems,
but I have the full confidence that he will rise to the occasion,” he said.

Ramatlhodi said he was thankful to Cabinet and the Minister for their
confidence and trust.

“My appointment is accepted with pride and a promise of total commitment
towards a most challenging task and responsibility. It is indeed a great honour
to be part of the management of a process that is so essential for the
reconstruction and development of our country.

“I underline what the minister has said and would like to reiterate my total
commitment towards the creation of an acceptable organisation for all the
peoples living in our beloved country,” he said.
