murder case of Thulasizwe Mngomezulu

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Sibusiso Ndebele has welcomed the judgment and
sentencing delivered by Justice Phillip Levinson today, 16 August 2007 in the
Pietermaritzburg High Court in the murder case of Thulasizwe Mngomezulu who was
employed in the KZN Office of the Premier.
Premier Ndebele praised the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the
swift arrest of the perpetrators and thorough investigation of this callous
murder as well as the prosecution team for the efficient handling of this case.
"Those who worked on this case managed to ensure that, in the end, justice is
not only done but is seen to be done and for that we commend them."
"Thulasizwe's death has certainly left a void in the Office of the Premier
that is difficult to fill. His in-depth knowledge, particularly on the subject
of heritage and culture, assisted us tremendously," said the Premier.
Accused number one (Mkhanyisi Ntuli) was convicted for murder and robbery
with aggravating circumstances. He was sentenced to 20 years and 15 years
imprisonment respectively and the sentences are to run concurrently.
Accused number two (Ningi Zondi), three (Lindiwe Ngobe) and four (Sandile
Moloi) were convicted for the competent verdict of robbery and were all
sentenced to eight years imprisonment, two years of which is suspended for the
period of five years.
Accused number three was also convicted for theft of Mngomezulu's cellphone
and was sentenced to one year imprisonment which will run concurrently with her
sentence for robbery.
