Premier's Dialogue Sessions

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial Public Service Training Academy was officially
launched by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele on 2 July 2007. One of the
key interventions, focusing on changing attitudes and mindsets of public
servants in the province to be co-ordinated by the academy, is the Premier's
Dialogue Sessions.

The first session, to be hosted on 31 August 2007, will be entitled:
'KwaZulu-Natal as a developmental province: The role of the public
servant.'

The session will take the form of an address by Premier Ndebele followed by
a dialogue session on issues raised in the Premier's address and any other
relevant matters. One of the first in South Africa, the KwaZulu-Natal Public
Service Training Academy serves as the centre of human capability development,
producing public servants who are skilled, productive and dedicated to serving
the public in the province. The core business of the academy is research,
internal consultancy and training.

The academy is responsible for the following key functions:

* skills planning, compliance and monitoring
* research and organisational development
* generic and functional training
* quality assurance
* knowledge management
* curriculum and learning material development
* adult basic education and training.

The academy ensures the co-ordination of developmental assignments, the
identification of potential, mentoring and coaching support, international
exchanges and tours, placements in the private sector, other spheres of
government, tertiary institutions and vice versa.

Learning programmes offered by the academy are developed in-house in
partnership with academic and professional institutions. The programmes take
the form of short courses and qualifications. Short courses are both credit and
non-credit-bearing. Credits bearing short courses are developed along the
requirements of an appropriate unit standard. Emphasis is placed on the
practical nature of learning with the course content comprising 30% theory and
70% practical.

All media are invited to attend. Please note picture opportunities. Entrance
to the parking area is via Bartell Road. Journalists attending must confirm
their attendance by no later than 14h00 on Thursday, 30 August 2007 as per the
contact details listed below.
