Diwali Celebration

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele will celebrate South Africa's 100th
Diwali Celebration together with the people of Chatsworth on Saturday, 10
November 2007, from 15h00 at the Chatsworth Circus Site, Unit 6,
Chatsworth.
Historians of the period mark 1907 as the first public communal celebration
of Diwali that wended its way through the streets of Durban. This year is the
100th public celebration of this wonderful occasion in our country.
The programme for the day will include:
* a visit by the Premier to the Aryan Benevolent Home
* the laying of a wreath at the Throb tragedy plaque where 13 children died in
a stampede with some of the parents in attendance
* a major celebration at the Chatsworth Circus Site, where about 1 000 people
are expected to attend, which will include dance, plays, displays and much
more.
