6 February 2006
It is all systems go for the hosting of the State of the Province Address
for 2006 at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg on 8 February.
This year's State of the Province Address is going to be the most colourful,
marked by pomp and ceremony and will be the biggest yet in terms of attendance.
The choice of the venue, Olympia Hall at the Royal Showgrounds, aims to ensure
that as wide a number of stakeholders and role-players attend.
A group of 300 learners, dressed in the colours of the flag, from Richmond,
Trust Feed and schools around Pietermaritzburg will line the entrance to the
Showgrounds, waving miniature South African flags as the Premier makes his
entrance.
Richmond and Trust Feed are two areas that were hard hit by political
violence and the invitation of children from these two areas is government's
gesture to show them that they and by extension their communities as well as
all other communities who were affected by violence, are part of the broader
KwaZulu-Natal community that is forward looking. These children will then form
part of the audience, inside the hall, that will listen to Premier Sibusiso
Ndebele as he delivers his State of the Province Address.
About 1 500 people, including business leaders, religious representatives,
members of the diplomatic corps, learners, development activists and members of
the public, are expected to attend this event.
The State of the Province Address provides a guideline for government's
programme of action for the year. Taking its cue from the State of the Nation
Address, previous makgotla and issues raised by the public during Izimbizo and
other interactions with government, the Address is expected to touch on areas
of poverty eradication, growing the economy, intensifying and accelerating
service delivery and building a better KwaZulu-Natal.
The State of the Province Address will be broadcast in all community radio
stations in the province and will also be accessible from the government
website on this address http://www.kwazulunatal.gov.za.
