16 October 2007
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele will deliver the keynote address at
the uMshwathi Municipality's Local Economic Development two-day (18 and 19
October 2007) Summit on Thursday, 18 October 2007, commencing at 10h00.
The 2007/08 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for uMshwathi Municipality
urges for an unprecedented and intensive approach to developing the
municipality ('business unusual' approach).
This intention to develop the municipality in an unprecedented and intensive
manner is underpinned by a two-pronged approach, namely:
* Local Economic Development Strategy, with tangible economic development lead
projects
* strategic partnerships for strengthening administration, management,
governance and investments in the Municipality.
Based on the IDP imperatives and the two-pronged approach, a number of
specific initiatives have been started and key among these is the partnership
with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) as well as the recent
investment mission to South Korea.
Therefore, two major highlights of the summit will be:
* the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Development Bank
of Southern Africa (DBSA) on the Sustainable Communities Project
* the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Tiger Kwon, Chairperson of
South Korea's Trapeace Holdings International. This MOU is about co-operation
between the uMshwathi Municipality and Trapeace with specific reference to the
establishment of a furniture manufacturing factory as well as a leather factory
in uMshwathi by Korean business people.
The summit will take place at Albert Falls Guest Lodge, 5 Thorn Tree Road,
Crammond, Albert Falls.
