Limpopo Premier Mr Sello Moloto will lead a government and business
delegation on a trade and investment promotion mission to the Gulf region. The
delegation will leave on 3 November 2007.
The countries to be visited are Kuwait, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and
Qatar. The Premier is accompanied by the MEC for Provincial Treasury Mr Saad
Chachalia and the MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Mr
Collins Chabane. "Although the Middle East is South Africa's sixth most
important trading partner, there is virtually not much that has happened in the
areas of trade linkages and investment between our province and the provinces
of the gulf. We believe this trade mission will explore mutually beneficial
trade links that will position our province as an investment destination of
choice for the countries of the gulf, especially in the areas of Limpopo's
competitive advantage such as mining, agriculture and tourism," said Limpopo
Premier Sello Moloto.
The targeted tangible outcomes of the visit include acquisition of business
skills, technology and employment creation, enhancement of tourism development,
increment of export in agricultural produce, building of capacity in scare
skills, and diversification of economy and growth in international tourism.
The Premier's delegation is expected to return to South Africa on 11
November 2007. Meanwhile, the Premier has appointed the MEC for Education Dr
Aaron Motsoaledi as Acting Premier for the duration of the visit.
