S Moloto on Executive Council reshuffle

Limpopo Premier on the Executive Council reshuffle

19 November 2006

In the past two weeks the provincial Executive Council held a three-day
Lekgotla. We received reports which covered the mid-term progress made by the
government, since May 2004 to date. We made a thorough assessment of the
achievements, weaknesses and challenges which we still have to contend
with.

The Executive Council is pleased with the progress and achievements which we
have made, and there is a sense of appreciation of the challenges and
weaknesses which we still have to overcome. We recommitted ourselves to the
electoral commitment and mandate which we received in 2004, i.e. building a
people's contract in order to fight poverty and create work for our people
within the context of achieving a better life for all.

Obviously this evaluation and assessment which was made necessitated some
adjustment and modification in the Executive Council in order to strengthen the
team to equal the task at hand. The adjustment which would be made with
immediate effect are as follows:

1. Mr Saad Cachalia: MEC for Provincial Treasury
2. Ms Joyce Mashamba: MEC for Sport, Art and Culture
3. Mr Justice Piitso: MEC for Roads and Transport

We have also noted the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) reports
and the recommendations which have been made. We hope and trust that the
Department of Roads and Transport, with the support of the Executive Council,
will be in a position to implement those recommendations.

Once more we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the
contribution which was made by all members of Executive Council, in particular
comrades Stan Motimele and Joe Maswanganyi. We believe that the commitment and
support which they have shown in the Executive Council will continue.

It is our pleasure to welcome the incumbents and wish them well in their new
assignments.
