The Limpopo Provincial government will be celebrating the International
Older Persons' Day on 1 October 2006 in honour of the old citizens of this
province. The event will take place at Dzumeri, Mageva Sport Ground in Mopani
Municipality. The event starts at 11h00.
Premier Sello Moloto will deliver the keynote address at this gathering that
will also be attended by among others, mayors and MECs. The theme of the
celebration is: "Age of hope - Everybody has their place on earth". During the
celebration the premier will be introduced to players of the Limpopo older
persons' soccer club. The club consists of players who are above 60 years of
age. Most of these players are from Tshififi and Ha-Mangilasi villages. The
premier will also inaugurate the Limpopo Older Persons' Forum.
Entertainment will be provided by traditional dancers and groups. Tiakeni
Bead Work and Makhubele and Nyeleti Sisters are among some of the groups that
are expected to perform.
The International Day of the Older Persons is a day celebrated annually by
many countries worldwide to show care and respect of the elderly. Last year the
province celebrated the day at Mogalakwena Municipality.
