Philani awards gala event

27 November 2006.

The MEC for Health, Mr Sakhiwo Belot, will deliver the keynote address at
the Philani awards gala event.

The Philani Awards was created in 2000 when the Department of Health was
challenged to improve service delivery. The awards are viewed as a vehicle for
promoting and gaining acceptance of the Batho Pele principles.

The Philani award is not just for front-line workers who deal face-to-face
with patients and clients. It includes all those workers behind the scenes who
make a real difference to the overall service which the patient or client
receives.

The awards were conceptualised as a way of recognising provincial health
workers whom
*·put the service user’s needs first
*·set high standards and live up to them
*·are careful with resources and efficient
*·are innovative and creative in their efforts to improve services.

Over the past six years the Award Ceremony has grown from strength to
strength.
