R Mabudafhasi to open Environmental Resource Centre, 2 Aug

Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi to open new knowledge and
learning centre

31 July 2007

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Rejoice
Mabudafhasi will officially open the Environmental Resource Centre located at
Cape Peninsula University of Technology on Thursday, 02 August 2007.

This significant event coincides with the Global Environment Facility's
Fourth Biennial International Waters Conference, which sees over 350 delegates
from 135 countries sharing information and exchanging experiences relating to
transboundary environmental concerns.

Situated in the New Library Extension on the Bellville Campus, the centre is
geared towards information and knowledge generation. It is envisaged that the
centre will bridge the gap between communities, institutions of learning and
government by providing a forum for discussion and dissemination of
information.

Carl Lundin of the International Union for Conservation of Nature will
address the opening event on the state of coastal areas and marine resources,
while Global Environment Facility (GEF) senior advisor, Alfred Duda will
comment from an international perspective. Media is invited to the launch
event.
