The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Ms Rejoice
Mabudafhasi accompanied by Mr Mbulelo Sogoni MEC for Economic Affairs,
Environment and Tourism in the Eastern Cape will participate in a sod turning
ceremony for the erection of a Garden of Remembrance in commemoration of the
Cradock Four. The ceremony also marks the sod turning for Ubuntu Cultural
Village in the Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality in Cradock, Eastern Cape and
will take place on Monday, 9 July 2007.
The Garden of Remembrance has been conceived to honour the four fallen
Cradock anti-apartheid activists: Fort Calata, Sparrow Mkhonto, Secelo Mkhawuli
and Mathew Goniwe.
The widows and family members of the Cradock Four will also attend the
ceremony.
The projects have been funded to the tune of R28 million by the Department
of Environmental Affairs and Tourism through its Social Responsibility Policy
and Projects Component.
