currently visiting the Syrian Arab Republic to hold discussion to strengthen
relations between the two countries

The Minister for Intelligence Services Ronnie Kasrils (MP) is currently
visiting the Syrian Arab Republic where he today met with President Bashar
al-Assad and the Interior Minister. The discussions, which continue tomorrow,
are aimed at identifying matters of mutual concern and finding ways to
strengthen relations between the two countries.
At the meeting Kasrils said that he was pleased with recent statements made
by the United States, United Kingdom and the European Union on the importance
of Syria's role in achieving stability in the Middle East.
Kasrils is scheduled to meet with the country's vice-President and Foreign
Minister tomorrow.
