The Gauteng Department of Local Government is hosting a seminar for Women in
Local Government on Thursday, 24 August 2006 at Carnival City in Brakpan.
The objectives of the seminar, which falls within the Womenâs Month
programme and the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Womenâs March to
the Union Buildings in Pretoria, are:
* setting the agenda and priorities of local government with regard to women
empowerment
* deepening the understanding of local governmentâs role in empowering women in
the workplace and in communities at large
* sharing best practices and experiences in women empowerment and gender
issues
* discussing the performance indicators for a women empowering and gender
sensitive municipality
* to enhance intergovernmental and inter-sectoral relations in addressing
gender issues, including women, in municipalities.
The seminar is in line with the Gauteng Provincial Governmentâs commitment
to addressing gender imbalances and eradicating the structural blockages
impeding womenâs development.
Gauteng MEC for Local Government Qedani Mahlangu will host the seminar and
