share experiences and lessons of Project Consolidate

Over the two years, the Department of Provincial and Local Government (the
dplg) with its partners such as the Consolidation of Municipal Transformation
Programme (CMTP) have been working directly with municipalities with the aim of
increasing the capacity of municipalities to deliver.
A two-day conference organised by Project Consolidate and the CMTP will be
held in Johannesburg to share these experiences and lessons acquired during
interactions with communities. The conference will be opened by the Deputy
Minister for Provincial and Local Government, Ms Nomatyala Hangana, on
Wednesday, 14 June 2006.
After the profiling exercise in 2004, 136 municipalities were placed under
Project Consolidate for hands on support. This conference will provide the
delegates, public and private sector practitioners as well as the public with a
view of the impact of government interventions and challenges that remain.
