The Xstrata mining company seeks to train 80 engineering students who will
be to enable them to graduate, as part of the Joint Initiative for Priority
Skills Acquisition (JIPSA), aimed at helping the country to bridge the skills
shortage. The students will be placed in the various offices of the
company.
These un-graduated students must have completed their studies, as the
curricula do not provide for students to do experiential training while busy
with studies. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that no student is deprived
of graduating from the course because they have not done experiential
training.
The requirement is for students who have studied any of the following
are:
1. BSC Electrical Engineering for electrical engineers
2. BSC Mechanical Engineering for mechanical engineers
3. BSC Mining engineering for mining engineers
4. BSC Chemical Engineering or Extraction Metallurgy for metallurgy
Students who are studying towards a National Diploma, Higher Diploma or B
Tech degree in the following areas electrical, mechanical or extraction
metallurgy are also legible for selection.
Students busy with diploma courses in the above fields need not necessarily
have completed their studies and can start with practical training 1 and
practical training 2 after having completed their 1st and 2nd semester
studies.
The reason for this is that they require practical training as part of their
curricula, normally prior to continuing with their 3rd and 4th semester
subjects.
The emphasis is on those students who have definitely finished with their
theory studies and just need practical to graduate.
Eligible students can e-mail pzwane@xtrata.co.za or fax to 011 250 0002
they call Lindi at 011 250 0000 to confirm receipt of their Curriculum Vitae
(CV).
All Curriculum Vitae must be received by the end of June to be eligible for
selection.
