South African Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad will on Tuesday, 5 June
2007, hold bilateral political and economic discussions with his counterpart
from the Czech Republic, Deputy Foreign Minister Helena Bambasova. Deputy
Minister Pahad will hold discussions with Deputy Minister Bambasova with a view
to the consolidation and strengthening of bilateral political, economic and
trade relations with the Czech Republic.
Issues on the agenda of discussions between Deputy Ministers Pahad and
Bambasova are expected to include, among others:
* the status of bilateral political, economic and trade relations between South
Africa and the Czech Republic including developments in relations since the
visit of President Prof Václav Klaus to South Africa in December 2006
* a briefing by Deputy Minister Pahad on developments in Africa including peace
keeping and conflict resolution
* the situation in the Middle East with reference to the 40th anniversary of
the occupation by Israel of Palestinian territories on 5 June
* the comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council and South
Africa's tenure of the non-permanent seat 2007-2008. Deputy Minister Bambasova,
will use the opportunity to lobby for South Africa's support for the Czech
Republic's candidature as a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN)
Security Council for 2008/2009.
