P Vilakazi on road traffic defaulter's arrests

58 road traffic defaulters arrested in Mafikeng

14 October 2007

The North West Traffic has nabbed 58 Mafikeng residents who had outstanding
warrants of arrest for traffic fines. The operation, which was mainly in and
around Mafikeng, will continue around all major cities in the North West to
ensure that the rule of law is adhered to. The operation is part of a campaign
dubbed 'Jaws of Life' introduced by MEC for Transport, Roads and Community
Safety, Phenye Vilakazi.

Vilakazi said the traffic officials should be commended and praised for a
job well done. "I urge all road users and vehicle owners to adhere to traffic
rules and pay their traffic fines in time. We definitely will not tolerate any
defaulters, especially those with warrant of arrest, we will lock them up
should they not pay in time," said MEC Vilakazi.

The 'Jaws of life' campaign was launched by Premier Edna Molewa and Vilakazi
two weeks ago. It is aimed at increasing traffic police visibility and applying
an approach of zero tolerance on traffic defaulters and promote positive
attitude towards traffic rules.
