Transport, Roads and Community Safety MEC Phenye Vilakazi, has established a
high level investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Friday's escape
of four dangerous criminals from Brits Magistrate Court. Vilakazi made an
announcement after inspecting the court from which the escape took place.
The escapees, who are charged with two counts of murder, including that of a
policeman, overpowered and disarmed a police officer and escaped after their
bail application case was postponed to tomorrow.
During their escape trial, the four shot and injured a motorist, whilst
attempting to hijack her vehicle, shot and killed a man after hijacking his car
and hijacked another vehicle, which was later found abandoned in Soshanguve.
"We want to go to the bottom of this escape and establish whether standard
procedure was followed. If anyone is found to have compromised standards, we
will act firmly," said Vilakazi.
In a related Vilakazi has assembled matter a top police team to trace the
escapees. "We are confident that soon we will arrest escapees. The escapees are
very dangerous and we appeal to the community to assist police in tracing
them," concluded Vilakazi.
Vilakazi visited the family of the man killed by the escapees during the
escape and later proceed to visit the family of a man and woman who were killed
in a road accident together with their two children.
