municipalities for housing development

The North West MEC for Local Government and Housing, Phenye Vilakazi, will
on Monday, 13 November 2006, deliver a keynote address at a two-day workshop
organised to brief local municipalities on the importance of applying for
accreditation as housing developers. The workshop will be attended by mayors
from all 21 local municipalities, housing managers and officials from both
provincial and local government as well as project managers.
The workshop follows Vilakazi's decision to withdraw the housing delivery
function from the remaining 18 local municipalities. The other three
municipalities, Greater Taung, Naledi and Mafikeng, had their functions
withdrawn last year.
Participants will also be educated on how housing waiting lists are compiled
and managed, as well as municipal housing sector plans, a detailed five-year
plan which is developed by a municipality to address the housing needs of that
particular municipality.
