KwaZulu Natal Health MEC, Mrs Peggy Nkonyeni will tomorrow officially launch
the rollout of information kiosks in public health hospitals. The kiosks will
enable patients who visit our hospitals to have up-to-date health information
at their fingertips. The kiosks will be stationed in the outpatients department
and at the admitting area in hospitals. The information kiosks have been
designed in a way that would enable the public to have quick and easy access to
information.
The kiosks have a touch screen which will makes it simple for anyone seeking
health information to navigate around it by simply touching headings on the
screen. Health information available from the kiosks will be in audio and text
format with video clips illustrating certain health promotion activities, for
example the importance of washing your hands, importance of leading a healthy
lifestyle, etc. The user will be able to choose to read the information in
English or Zulu. âWe are living in a digital information age and as the
department we have taken it upon ourselves to play a meaningful role in
reducing levels of illiteracy among our people but at the same time relaying
vital health information to people that come to our health facilities. This is
important in our quest of reducing the burden of diseases, both communicable
and non-communicable diseases in our province,â says the MEC.
