The National Youth Commission (NYC) will convene a national Youth Sector
workshop on the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative of South Africa
(ASGI-SA) at the Kopanong Conference Centre, Benoni, on 17 to 18 January 2006
at 16:30.
Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will officially open the workshop of
more than 150 youth leaders and chairpersons of provincial Youth Commissions
from all nine provinces.
Expected to emerge from the two-day workshop is a consolidated youth sector
input for consideration into the broader national ASGI-SA framework. The
workshop would specifically interrogate such youth development opportunities as
provided by the human resource development initiatives, expanded public works
programme, development of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), business
process outsourcing and minerals beneficiation, co-operatives and 2010 Soccer
World Cup projects.
Members of the media are invited to attend opening session on Tuesday, 17
January 2006, at 16:30 and the media briefing on 18 January 2006 at 11:30.
