Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will officially open the Lion
Ferrochrome smelter in Steelpoort tomorrow.
Lion Ferrochrome is the largest single-phase ferrochrome expansion in the
world. The recently completed phase one has an annual production capacity of
364 00 tons of ferrochrome.
During its construction, Lion Ferrochrome provided employment to over 2 700
people, and has a permanent staff of 452.
The smelter and mine were built at a cost of R1,67 million.
