Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka arrives in Japan

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka today, 18 April 2006, arrived in
Japan for the working visit to take place on 19 and 20 April.

Forming part of the Deputy President's delegation are the Minister of
Minerals and Energy Lindiwe Hendricks and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs
Mr Aziz Pahad, Deputy Minister of Finance Mr Jabu Moleketi, Deputy Minister of
Trade and Industry Mr Rob Davies and Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs
Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi.

The visit is aimed at communicating the Accelerated and Shared Growth
Initiative for South Africa(AsgiSA) and the Joint Initiative for Priority
Skills Acquisition (JIPSA) while investigating areas of co-operation and skills
transfer between South Africa Japan.

The Deputy President will hold discussions with Prime Minister Koizumi and
pay a courtesy call on Crown Prince Naruhito.

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will also hold discussions with the:

* President of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Sadako
Ogata;
* Chairperson of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Osamu
Watanabe;
* Governor of the Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC);
* Vice-Chairperson of Toyota and South African Honorary Consul to Japan;
* President of the Sanko Steamship Company and Kenji Kanda, President of the
Kanda Shipbuilding Company; and
* Japanese Chamber of Commerce

The Deputy President is scheduled to leave on 21 April for Indonesia for an
official visit, taking place from 22 to 25 April 2006.
