Christmas Party in Cape Town

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will on Thursday, 6 December, host
the Children's Christmas Party at her residence in Cape Town, Grooteschuur
Estate. The event is aimed at giving children the opportunity to experience the
Christmas spirit and atmosphere, joy and sense of belonging as they interact
with the Deputy President at her residence.
The event to be co-hosted with the Office on the Rights of the Child (ORC)
will focus on children of fire, orphans, and children with disabilities. All
provinces will be represented by 10 children invited from each province, as
well as children from all regions in the Western Cape.
The Deputy President encourages interaction amongst children from all walks
of life, irrespective of disabilities, and backgrounds, thus on this day,
children will be on duty to help those who require assistance.
President Mbeki has also been invited to cut the cake with all the children.
Other invited guests are ministers, MECs and premiers.
The event started in 2005, where 300 children were invited. Last year
(2006), 500 hundred children, including those with disabilities and orphans
from around Gauteng province, were invited. The event was co-hosted with
Executive Mayor Duma Nkosi and Mayors from the Metropolitan regions in
Gauteng.
