Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka attends the Most
Improved School Awards ceremony

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will deliver a keynote address at
the annual Most Improved School Awards Ceremony to be held at the Presidential
Guest house tomorrow, 1 March 2007 at 18h00.

Hosted by the Department of Education, the Awards recognise and acknowledge
schools that are performing well and have achieved good results. The Awards
also highlight successes and identify possible role models in a manner that
will benefit all learners.

The schools must have achieved consistent marks over the past three years
and a minimum overall pass rate of 80%.

Schools must be able to make a difference to learner achievement despite the
intake variable and the socio-economic background of learners. All public
schools qualify for the awards and schools do not need to 'apply' or 'enter';
an independent panel of judges will do will do the adjudication.
