It is with sadness that we have had to hear of the passing of a prolific
artist, a legend and an icon in the music industry. We have all suffered yet
another loss with the brutal and senseless murder of Lucky Dube.
Dube's deep sense of patriotism is a prominent feature of his music career.
For more than two decades he confronted pertinent social and political issues
through his music, bringing to the fore the pain and suffering of many South
Africans. Dube's lyrics ignited the passions of millions of people in South
Africa and around the world. His songs have ranged from issues dealing with
alcoholism in "I am a Liquor Slave," to social anthems like "Prisoner" which
highlighted the many injustices of apartheid.
Lucky Dube must not only be remembered for his music, but also for the role
he played in uniting this country through that music. Our heartfelt condolences
go to the Dube Family, relatives, friends and fans.
