and Poverty Reduction

8 June 2007

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will tomorrow, Saturday, 9 June
2007, address the International Conference on Social Protection and Poverty
Reduction to be held in Cape Town.

The conference organised by the South African government, hosts ministers
responsible for social development and policy experts from Southern African

The conference will feature discussions based on research findings from
specific pre-selected countries in Africa and Latin American. In addition, it
will host presentations by Political Principals from (Southern) African
countries reviewing regional and or sub-regional progress and challenges.

The three day conference is currently underway at the Lord Charles Hotel in
Cape Town, Somerset West and was officially opened by the Minister of Social
Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya, on Thursday, 7 June 2007.

The theme of the conference is South-South Co-operation on Social Protection
