Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka attends the 81st International
CIBJO Congress

8 March 2007

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will give a keynote address at the 81st
International CIBJO Congress, to be hosted by the Jewellery Council of South
Africa, on Monday, 12 March 2007, at the Cape Town International Convention
Centre.

CIBJO, is the acronym for the French phrase: Confederation International de
la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfevrerie des Diamantes, Perle et Pierres. The
organisation was founded in 1926 with the purpose to promote international
co-operation in the jewellery industry and to consider issues which concern the
trade worldwide.

CIBJO has earmarked Africa to launch its socio-economic programme at this
Congress, exploring ways the jewellery industry can be socially sustainable and
economically viable on the African continent.

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka's presence at this Congress will encourage
the industry to form partnerships with the government in order to develop
skills through the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa
(AsgiSA), and to support a responsible sustainable global jewellery
industry.
