research and technology collaboration between Department of Science and
Technology (DST) and Airbus

All media is invited to attend a media briefing wherein Science and
Technology Director-General Dr Phil Mjwara will sign a Memorandum of Agreement
(MoA) of Research and Technology with Airbus, at the 2006 African Aerospace
Defence Show, on the 21 September 2006.
South Africa will partner with Airbus in a new research and technology
initiative which aims to identify and develop new advanced applications for the
global aerospace industry.

This MoA is a culmination of on-going engagements by the DST, the Council
for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), collaboration with the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Aerospace Industry Support
Initiative (AISI).
This partnership with Airbus is in line with the objectives of the
Department's National Research and Development Strategy and opens opportunities
for South African researchers and requirements of the Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEM), to further develop and build human capacity within the
high tech advanced manufacturing sector and the opportunity to leverage
international expertise with the aerospace industry.
