The Science and Technology Director-General, Dr Phil Mjwara, will officially
launch the CPF agreement between South Africa and the IAEA for the 2005 to 2010
period.
All media is welcome to attend.
Event details:
Date: 5 December 2006

The CPF agreement outlines South Africa's current and future priority needs
in the areas of nuclear technical co-operation and development.
South Africa became an official Member State after the signing of the IAEA
statute in 1957. The IAEA's main objective is to establish a system of
supervision and control to make certain that none of the assistance programs
that it fosters and none of the materials whose distribution it supervises are
used for military purposes.
Responsibility for the management of the South African government's
relations and obligations with the IAEA has been delegated to South African
Departments of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Minerals and Energy (DME) and DST.
The DST is responsible for the management of Technical Co-operation
Programme which helps to transfer nuclear and related technologies for peaceful
uses to countries throughout the world.
